Shandia, our new site in Ecuador, is a small, rural community located in the Amazon Rainforest. While the community is home to a wealth of natural resources, nearly 80% of its 300 residents live below the poverty line and most people lack access to clean water. While 90% of residents have water piped into their homes, it comes untreated from the Napo River. As a result of this contaminated water source, the community suffers from high rates of water-borne illnesses, intestinal parasites, and other heath issues.
