Volunteer at MPI Nicaragua or MPI Ecuador

Thirteen Month Program Director Positions

Program Directors live and work on site in Nicaragua or Ecuador for thirteen months with 6 to 10 other Program Directors. As a team, they work alongside leaders in the communities of focus to ascertain and meet the community’s specific needs. Program Directors are called upon to use their education, passions, and interests to take the initiative to develop existing community projects and will also have the opportunity to establish new projects. Program Directors are also responsible for facilitating MPI’s Spring Break and Summer Volunteer programs.

MPI seeks Directors who:

    * Desire to use their education, passion, and interests in service.
    * Have the initiative to “make things happen”.
    * Work well as part of a team.
    * Are open
to an experience that can change their lives.

To learn more about this incredible opportunity to work with MPI in Nicaragua or Ecuador, please read our 2008 Program Director Handbook. Read "Fundraising with MPI" for information on how to raise support for long-term volunteering.

Program Director Start and End Dates:
July 11, 2008 – August 7, 2009

*The first month of service will include two weeks of Spanish language preparation and two weeks of program transition from the previous year’s program directors. The thirteenth and final month of service will entail passing off program’s to the following year’s directors.

Spring Break 2008

Spring Break trips are designed to provide service opportunities to groups of students who desire to spend their Spring Break volunteering to help those less fortunate than themselves. These groups are organized at their respective universities. The group’s leaders communicate with MPI to plan the trip, selecting the focus of their trip and their fundraising. Collaboration with the Program Directors ensures an experience that will make a lasting impact—for the volunteers and for those they are serving.
If you wish to organize a Spring Break trip for your college through MPI, please contact us and/or send us a completed interest form at interest@mannaproject.org

Summer Program

Session 1:  May 17 - June 13
Session 2:  June 14 - July 11

*All spots for our 2008 summer volunteer program have been filled.

The MPI Summer Program gives volunteers a vision for working with a non-profit and serving an underprivileged population. The program integrates the volunteers into the daily functions of MPI Program Directors as they assist in planning classes and instructing lessons. Volunteers will get a snapshot of MPI´s longterm goals in action, seeing how their trip contributes to the greater pictures of community development.

There is ample opportunity for volunteers to interact with the local community through established programs and on their own initiative. Volunteers are encouraged to put their education and passions to use by making suggestions or recognizing new areas in which MPI could better serve the community.

Summer Volunteers are to be college-aged and ready to utilize their energy, enthusiasm, and intelligence to contribute to the on-going development in the local community. Weekdays are full of possible projects, and the volunteers will be as busy as they choose to be. Weekends are often open for travel around the beautiful country in search of diverse cultural and tourist locations.
